Oberammergau and Bavarias Fairytale Castles

Oberammergau Bavaria

Oberammergau Passion Play and Bavaria's Fairytale Castles

Savour the sights of the Black Forest together with the fairytale wonders of the romantic castles of Bavaria along one of the most picturesque scenic trails in the whole of Germany.

Day 1:  Depart from one of our local joining points or take advantage of our Door to Door service* and connect to your transfer service to Dover. Here you meet your luxury coach and fellow travellers then sail to Calais and onwards to our overnight stop hotel in Belgium.

Day 2:  We leave Belgium and take a scenic route through Germany’s Black Forest region before arriving at our hotel in Reutte just over the border in Austria for a three night stay. B,D

Day 3:  Fairytale Castles - A day to discover fairytale castles. Firstly we visit the village of Hohenschwangau and King Ludwig’s famous castle Neuschwanstein. Built in the 19th century, this fairytale castle is dramatically perched on a hilltop with panoramic views over the countryside and the Royal castle of Hohenschwangau. (Please note at Neuschwanstein there is a degree of walking involved as well as a considerable number of steps to climb... King Ludwig loved his privacy!) In the afternoon we drive along the Graswang valley to visit the beautiful castle Linderhof, modelled on the Petit Trianon at Versailles and lavishly decorated with mirrors, painted ceilings and gilded cherubs in a mixture of Renaissance and Baroque styles. B,D

Day 4:  Innsbruck - We travel east to Innsbruck, ‘capital’ of the Tirol. Set with a backdrop of soaring Alpine mountains and fine regal buildings, it is a major winter sports city, having hosted the winter Olympics. We visit the internationally renowned Ski jump, Berg Isel, where you can marvel at the bravery and courage of the jumpers- it’s even more frightening than it appears on TV! The Golden Roof is testimony to the time in the 15th century when Innsbruck was at the centre of European culture and politics when Emperor Maximilian 1 based his Imperial Court here. Today you can enjoy its relaxing squares and vibrant shopping streets. B,D

Day 5:  Oberammergau - We leave Austria and travel to Oberammergau to check into our hotel ahead of the Passion Play. Lunch is taken at noon before the start of the Passion Play begins at 2.30pm. After a break for dinner between 5pm and 8pm the Play ends at 10.30pm. Transfer back to your hotel. B,L,D

Day 6:  We leave after an early breakfast and head north through Germany arriving at our 4-star overnight hotel in Belgium this evening. B

Day 7:  We travel onto Calais for our return crossing to the U.K. and then continue on our transfer service to your chosen local drop off point. B
