Walk along the old town wall, across the 14th century Chapel Bridge and admire the ornate roof paintings of historical scenes. You can take an optional ride on the famous Pilatusbahn, the world’s steepest cog railway, which ascends Mount Pilatus at a gradient of 48% to a height of just under 7,000ft, from where the views are superb. B,D

Day 4: Interlaken & Grindelwald - A leisurely day as we drive over the scenic Brunig Pass to the ancient village of Brienz with houses dating back to the 16th century and a church to the 12th century. We continue to Interlaken, one of the oldest tourist resorts in Switzerland and still very popular today. From here we visit the glacier village of Grindelwald. Have your camera ready to capture a picture of the Eiger Mountain. B,D

Day 5: St Anton - We leave after breakfast and head east across Switzerland into the Arlberg region of Austria making a stop at the winter and summer resort town of St Anton. From here we continue across the mountain pass into Bavaria arriving at our accommodation in the Oberammergau area for a two night stay. Enjoy a relaxing evening ahead of tomorrow’s spectacle. B,D

Day 6: Oberammergau - Enjoy a relaxing morning in the environs of Oberammergau. Lunch is taken at noon before the start of the Passion Play at 2.30pm. After a break for dinner between 5pm and 8pm the Play ends at 10.30pm. Transfer back to your accommodation. B,L,D

Day 8: Rudesheim & the Rhine Valley - As we travel north to Belgium, our route takes us through the picturesque Rhine Valley. Our first call is at Rüdesheim on the banks of the river. The heart of the old town is the Drosselgasse, a narrow cobbled street with restaurants and wine taverns. As we travel north along the valley you will have the chance for a relaxing sightseeing cruise (optional) to take in the views from the river. Our overnight stay tonight is in a 4-star hotel in Belgium. B
